He has emerged as one of the most prominent online voices critical of the Egyptian government, known for his satirical style that blends poetry with incisive political analysis. Elshrif began his career on YouTube in January 2013, publishing political poems. However, he gained widespread fame in early 2014 with the creation of his character "Cheb Ashraf," a satirical personality who criticized the ruling regime in Egypt. The series was highly successful, frequently topping YouTube's trending lists in Egypt. He later discontinued the "Cheb Ashraf" show to focus on his main weekly program, "Abdullah ELshrif," where he comments on political events in Egypt and the Arab world. In addition to his YouTube work, Elshrif has collaborated with Al Jazeera Mubasher, hosting shows such as "Houda and Abbouda" and "Bus." He is known for his sharp critique of Egyptian policies, which has led to significant security pressure on him and his family, including the arrest of his father and several of his brothers. Elshrif currently lives in exile, with sources indicating he resides in the United Kingdom, from where he continues to produce his content.
