Bassem Yakhour is a prominent Syrian actor, director, and writer, considered one of the most significant stars in Arab drama and comedy. Born in Latakia, Syria, he graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus in 1993 and joined the Syrian Artists Syndicate on February 16, 1999. His career began in the early 1990s, and he quickly proved his exceptional talent by skillfully portraying a wide range of roles, moving seamlessly between comedy, tragedy, and historical works. Yakhour is famous for iconic roles that have left a lasting mark on Arab audiences. Among his most notable characters are "Joudeh Abu Khamis" in the hit comedy series "Dayaa Dayaa" and his pivotal participation in the satirical sketch show "Spotlight," for which he also co-wrote. He has also excelled in complex dramatic roles, such as in the series "Al-Welada Min Al-Khasira," and significant historical figures like "Khalid ibn Al-Walid." His career extended beyond Syria to include Egyptian drama, where he participated in notable productions like the film "Khalij Nema" (Naama Bay, 2007) and the series "Zahra and Her Five Husbands." In addition to acting, Yakhour has ventured into directing, helming the series "Homy Hon" (2004) and the play "The Explosive Man" (2000). He also established himself as a successful television host with programs like "Akelnaha" and "Amir Al-Shu'ara" (Prince of Poets), known for his spontaneous and engaging style. Bassem Yakhour won the Gold Award at the Cairo Radio and Television Festival in 2008 for Best Actor in a Leading Role. This honor recognized his outstanding performance in the social comedy series "Ayam Al-Waladna." In 2009, he received the Gold Award at the Golden Fennec Festival in Algeria for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He earned this prize for his role in the drama series "When Morals Rebel," highlighting his ability to excel in both tragic and comedic roles. Yakhour is one of the founders and most prominent stars of the critical comedy series "Spotlight," which launched in 2001. Beyond acting, he was also part of the writing workshop, and the show helped solidify his status as a comprehensive artist capable of tackling social issues with satire. He achieved widespread recognition in Egypt through his role in the 2007 film "Khalij Nema" (Naama Bay). Egyptian critics and audiences considered his performance a significant turning point in his career, proving his powerful presence and unique talent beyond Syrian drama.
