Dr. Omar Abdelkafy Shehata is a renowned Egyptian Islamic scholar, thinker, and preacher, born in the village of Tilla, Minya, on May 1, 1951. His academic journey uniquely combines agricultural science with Islamic studies. He earned a Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences and worked as a researcher at Egypt's National Research Center. In parallel, he pursued religious knowledge, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies and a Master's degree in Comparative Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence). He studied under prominent scholars like Muhammad al-Ghazali, Muhammad Metwally El-Shaarawy, and Yusuf al-Qaradawi. He memorized the entire Qur'an by the age of ten, as well as the two Sahih collections of Hadith (al-Bukhari and Muslim) with their chains of narration. Dr. Abdelkafy began his public preaching (da'wah) in 1972, delivering thousands of lectures and Friday sermons over several decades, covering topics such as the Prophet's biography, stories of the prophets, commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari, and the Hereafter. He is known for his eloquent style, which blends scientific knowledge with faith and a deep appreciation for the Arabic language, with a special focus on the scientific exegesis of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Since 1994, he has dedicated himself more to research and writing. Dr. Abdelkafy currently resides in the United Arab Emirates, where he holds significant positions, including Director of the Quranic Studies Center for the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.
Dr. Omar Abdelkafy has delivered over 3,000 recorded lessons and lectures throughout his preaching career, which began in 1972. His work includes extensive and systematic series on the explanation of Sahih al-Bukhari, the Prophet's biography, the stories of the prophets, and the Hereafter, leaving a significant impact on contemporary Islamic awareness. He has enriched Islamic media with numerous popular television programs that gained widespread viewership across the Arab and Islamic world. His most notable shows include "Al-Wa'd Al-Haq" (The True Promise), "Hatha Deenuna" (This Is Our Religion), and "Safwat Al-Safwa" (The Best of the Best), which were broadcast on major satellite channels like Sharjah TV and Iqraa TV. Many of these series were later published as successful books. He holds several distinguished academic and scholarly positions, serving as the Director of the Quranic Studies Center for the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, a member of the Board of Trustees for the International Union for Muslim Scholars, and a member of the Fiqh Academy of India. These roles underscore his esteemed scholarly status internationally.
