Youssef Hussein, widely known as Joe Hussen, is an Egyptian comedian and media personality who has emerged as one of the most prominent political satirists in the Arab world. Born in Cairo on December 16, 1988, to a family from the Dakahlia Governorate, he spent much of his upbringing and received his school education in Qatar, where his father worked as a merchant. His media career began unexpectedly in 2013 after a satirical political video he co-created with Ahmed Al-Zariri went viral on YouTube. This success led to the creation of the YouTube channel "Joe Tube," which quickly gained a large following for its critical and comedic take on the political and media landscape in Egypt. In 2016, Hussen transitioned from digital media to television, launching his popular weekly program, "Joe Show," on Al Araby TV, which broadcasts from London. The show focuses on critiquing the political and economic situations in Egypt and the broader Arab region, using comedy to deconstruct contradictions in official media and political discourse. Due to the nature of his work, Hussen left Egypt in late 2013 and lives abroad. In 2019, there were calls in Egypt to revoke his citizenship because of his program. On a personal note, Joe Hussen is married and has a daughter named Laila.
