Hatem Al Iraqi, born Hatem Mashhout Abbas Al-Azzawi on March 20, 1969, in Baghdad, is a prominent Iraqi singer and composer. Known by the nicknames "The Nightingale of Iraq" and "The King of Mawwals," he is considered one of the most significant voices in Iraqi and Arabic music. Growing up in Al-Thawra City (Sadr City), he worked as an oil salesman before launching his artistic career in the early 1990s. His debut album, "Khalooh Al-Asmar" (1990), quickly brought him widespread fame. Al Iraqi is renowned for his powerful vocals and his masterful delivery of the traditional Iraqi Mawal, a form of vocal improvisation. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq and the subsequent instability, he left his home country and settled in the United Arab Emirates, where he continued to build his career. With a discography spanning over three decades and more than 25 albums, he has cemented his legacy. Al Iraqi has also composed music for other notable Arab artists, including Kadim Al Sahir, Saber Rebaï, Rahma Riad, and Shatha Hassoun. Beyond his recording career, he served as a judge on the talent show "Iraq Idol" on MBC Iraq in 2021 and hosted the television program "Sahraya" in 2019.
