Samer Sawan, known professionally as Big Sam, is a Palestinian rapper, singer, and producer born in 1988. Raised in Jordan, he was influenced by the global hip-hop scene from a young age, which inspired him to start his artistic journey from his bedroom. Big Sam has emerged as one of the most significant voices in the Arab world's alternative hip-hop and Tarab-pop scene, distinguished by his unique style that merges the power and depth of rap lyrics with the emotional weight of Eastern melodies. He began his career independently, writing and producing most of his own work, which often reflects his personal experiences and the social and emotional issues facing youth. He draws inspiration from everything he sees and feels, giving his music an authenticity and depth that resonates with his audience. His father's origins trace back to the Al-Rimal neighborhood in Gaza, strengthening his connection to his Palestinian identity, which is often present in his art. He considers Jordan, particularly Amman, as his home and has performed numerous major concerts there, solidifying his artistic standing. While some early sources mentioned an engineering background, his passion for music ultimately defined his professional path as he dedicated himself fully to his craft.
