Amr Diab, nicknamed "El Hadaba" (The Plateau), is an Egyptian artist and an icon of the Arab music world, born in Port Said on October 11, 1961. His career, spanning over four decades, has revolutionized Arab music. He is credited with creating "Mediterranean Music," a style that blends Western rhythms with Egyptian and Eastern melodies. His passion for music began early; at the age of six, he sang the Egyptian national anthem at the July 23rd Festival in Port Said, capturing public attention. He graduated from the Cairo Academy of Arts with a bachelor's degree in Arabic Music in 1986, having already released his debut album, "Ya Tareeq," in 1983. The 1996 album "Nour El Ain" was a global turning point in his career, achieving massive success far beyond the Arab world. In addition to a prolific music career with over 35 albums, Diab has ventured into cinema, starring in films like "Ice Cream in Gleem" and "Deahk We La'ab" alongside the international star Omar Sharif. He is also considered a pioneer of music videos in the Middle East. In recent years, his interests have expanded into entrepreneurship. He launched his own perfume line and announced a partnership with One Development to create a chain of boutique hotels. In 2024, he signed a landmark deal with Sony Music for the management and global distribution of his catalog.
